The Cherokee legend of the Tlanuwa is similar to that of the Piasa.The Tlanuwa were a pair of immense birds said to live in a cave on the north bank of the Little Tennessee River in Blount County Tennessee.They would fly up and down the river, even coming into the villages to carry off and eat dogs and small children.About.com   Two Thunderbirds

Location. Pueblo, Moca, Puerto Rico  Date: March 26 1975  Time: 1300
A laborer named Juan Muniz Feliciano was allegedly attacked by a "terrible creature, with lots of feathers, a thick, long neck much bigger than a goose's neck, and weighing what must have been about 50 lbs." Muniz said he had been coming home when he saw the giant bird and threw a couple of rocks at it. Location. Cuatro Calles, Ponce, Puerto Rico  Date: August 1975 Time: unknown  A "mysterious bird," described as gigantic, with sharp claws, attacked 2 pheasants, 2 hens, and 5 chicks owner by Mr. Rosario de Jesus. Local residents also say they had seen a "huge bird" flying over the district. The creature made a very queer noise, and was huge. Location. Little Pine Creek, Pennsylvania  Date: Summer 1969  Time: afternoon
The wife of Clinton County Sheriff John Boyle, while sitting in front of the couple's cabin, saw an enormous gray colored bird land in the middle of the creek. A few moments later it rose to fly away. Its wingspan appeared to have been about 75 ft. Around the same time three men claimed to have seen a "thunderbird" snatch up a 15 pound fawn near Kettle Creek.  Source: Jerome Clark, Unexplained!  THUNDERBIRD - the wingspan is greatly exaggerated though.

Location. Near Arco Idaho  Date: Summer 1978  Time: afternoon
Jessie Ross saw what looked like, a prehistoric eagle sitting on a 15-foot rock. When it saw him it tried to fly, it had to take lumbering steps with some flopping around. It was not a vulture and stood about 5 ft high on the rock, had a hooked beak, was coal black with a bright orange head, and had eyes two inches across. Eventually it got in the air, spreading its 20-22 ft wingspan, to catch the 90-degree summer thermals, and flew off to the north.  Source: The Western Bigfoot Society Newsletter  ANOMALOUS CREATURE ~ Prehistoric Eagle, not a "Thunderbird" per say, this creature came through a dimensional rift from an earlier time in Earth's history.

Location. Flat Top Mountain Colorado  Date: Summer 1986  Time: afternoon
At an isolated location three witnesses saw a huge bird-like creature apparently perched on top of a flat hill. They decided to approach to obtain a better look when the creature took off. They described it as bigger that a 747 resembling an intangible shadow. They were able to see it had split feathers on its wings and on its tail, a predatory beak, no eyes were visible. It flew over the valley counterclockwise and then it just vanished. Most thunderbird types travel in more than one dimension but, these dimensions are tied to Earth.

Location. Near Hogansville Georgia  Date: June 1994  Time: 1845
A married couple was driving on the Mountville Road when as they neared Bear Creek crossing they saw a huge bird like creature standing on the side of the road. Jumping up from the east side of the road the "bird" flew low to the ground and in front of their car. Crossing over the road, the bird continued to fly low and into some thick woods on the west side of the road. The wife estimated the bird's wingspan to be at least 10 feet. She also said it was black like a crow. The husband though that the bird was having trouble getting off the ground, and that it had "long slender wings." Both also said that the bird on the ground stood an amazing 3-1/2 feet tall. They were both surprised that this huge bird flew into the woods instead of up into the sky.  HC addition # 2875  Thunderbird

Location. Allport, Pennsylvania  Date: August 1994  Time: morning
Michael Shane Kirkpatrick and a friend were fishing in a man-made lake located 100 yards behind Kirkpatrick's house when they ran out of bait, Kirkpatrick's friend volunteered to fetch more bait, leaving him alone. A few minutes later he heard what sounded like a flapping sound above him. He looked up and saw the biggest bird he had ever seen. It was just above some small trees that were about 15 - 20 feet high. It was brown colored with small light colored strips on it. The wingspan was at least 20 feet from wing tip to wing tip and at least 10 feet long. The witness attempted to obtain his friend's attention but the bird flew high up and disappeared.   Source: Cryptozoology.com  Thunderbird, one type anyways.

Amazing Thunderbird Sighting     by Bob F.     I read an article that you authored about sightings of a giant bird. I have been somewhat haunted since Sept/Oct 1995 when, while driving to work at approximately 6:15 a.m. on my tree-canopied country road (Deer Path Lane) in the town of Weston, Massachusetts, as I drove over the slightly ridged slope in the road toward Highland Street, I thought "a man in a hang glider" was about to smash into my car windshield. I abruptly stopped the car and to my absolute astonishment... it was a giant eagle-like bird with black eagle like wings and some white colors, with a head resembling that of an eagle! I can only describe the wingspan as large as an interstate highway road sign - at least 20 feet wide! And with a body the size of an adult human! From its enormous size, I would estimate its weight to be about 175-200 lbs.
     This creature majestically and effortlessly lumbered and floated up above my car softly and gently, moving it's wings for lift of flight up through the middle of the roadway so it's wings would not be obstructed by the tree canopy branches lining the confines of the roadway. I will NEVER forget what I saw! When I arrived at work at about 6:45 a.m., I called the town of Weston Police Department and reported my sighting. I called my wife and my parents to tell them what I had seen, and I also told everyone at work upon my arrival. I contacted the local Audubon Society and I purchased a "bird book" from the nearest shopping mall on my lunch break. NONE of the birds in the book come even close to what I saw. What I saw resembles the: Argentavis Magnificens. Source: About.com THUNDERBIRD - Just as there are variations of the type of bird we know of as a dove. There are variations of Thunderbirds. This is one of them.

Location. South Greensburg, Pennsylvania  Date: September 25 2001  Time: unknown    Eyewitness Mike Felice saw a giant bird-like creature flying over the area. Big Bird Sighting     by Patty W.    I have some info on the big bird situation. In 2001, my husband and I were driving outside of New Wilmington, Pa. late one night. It was around 2-3 in the morning. We had received a call that someone may have spotted our lost beagle. It was October and we had a quiet moment while we were driving down this dusky country road. The moon was out and did light things up, but it was still dusk-like.
      All of the sudden, we heard a bird fly above us. It swooped down, soaring above our SUV. We thought it landed on our vehicle because we sort of lifted up a little off the road. Our windows were down and the bird had came so close to our vehicle that when it soared back up, it kind of lifted us up, or felt like it anyway. We both looked at each other and said, "What the hell was that?" We looked up in the sky and a huge grayish-white like bird with a wing span of about 13 to 16 feet soared to a nearby white tree with out leaves. It blended in so well, the bird disappeared when it landed on the limb. The tree looked petrified/dead like. I said to my husband, "That is the biggest bird I have ever seen in my life."
      I called it the "bird man" because its legs were so long and dangled like a man's legs. We came home and told our children (who are teens) the following morning and they laughed at us. It almost looked prehistoric! I still find it hard to believe what we saw. When I came home from work this morning, my husband told me he heard about this big bird thing on Coast-to-Coast. I'm glad to hear we are not the only ones who have seen this amazing bird. Source: About.com  This was a Thunderbird

Location. Seberang Jaya, Malaysia  Date: June 22 2005  Time: 1930
Mohamad Amirudin, 34, stepped out of his house with his 3-year old son after hearing a commotion from the children playing outside. He glance skywards and saw a large bird-like creature flying over the area. According to the witness it looked like an ordinary bird, flapping its wings but was much larger. However, he was unable to give an estimate of its height. The bird was black in color but there was red light on its front portion. The adult folks said that it was a mythological bird but the children said that it was a ghost. After looking at the strange bird for a few minutes, the witness went indoors since it was already sunset.
